Staying at Home during COVID?

Try some of these fun things to do!



  1. Watch mama cheetah and her cubs on the webcam from the Smithsonian National Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal (just don’t expect a lot of activity!) at

  2. Or, visit some of the other animals at the National Zoo.

  3. Call Someone. Maybe you haven’t been in touch with a friend in a while. Now is a good time to catch them at home. Don’t know who to call? One of or Rapp at Home members would be delighted to chat with you! Call us at 540-937-4663 and we’ll set you up with a Phone Buddy.

  4. Immerse yourself in a good book. The Rappahannock County Library offers free e-books, e-audio books, educational and research databases. Go to: The Rappahannock Library also has WiFi available 24/7 on the library grounds (you can park and sit in your car, or in nice weather sit outside with appropriate social-distancing).

  5. Make a mask for yourself or someone who needs it. If you have extra material lying around the house, you can easily make masks to cover your face when going into public places. Some easy instructions can be found at:

  6. Go to the Opera. The Metropolitan Opera is dark, but is streaming encore presentations from its award-winning Live in HD series of cinema transmissions on the company website for the duration of the closure.

  7. Visit a Museum. Google has curated exhibitions from some of the world’s major museums.  The Virginia Museum of History and Culture has some really interesting lectures and tours online.

  8. Stream an Exercise Class. Silver Sneakers Strength and Balance Class.

  9. Go Out for a Walk. Enjoy the warm weather in beautiful Rappahannock.

  10. Write in a Journal. What are you thinking and feeling during this very unusual time in your life?

  12. Genealogy. Research your family tree with free resources. 

  13. Explore our National Parks.  

  14. Go to the Kennedy Center.  Enjoy free videos and extraordinary on-demand performances as well as educational activities.

  15. For History Buffs. C-SPAN American History TV has thousands of hours of history content.
